At Highfield Vets, our mission is to provide exceptional care to both you and your pets and having been awarded the Silver Certificate by the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM) as a 'Cat friendly clinic', a special accreditation which details the exceptional level of care we give our feline friends, we believe we are achieving this.
The cat friendly clinic programme was developed by the ISFM - the veterinary division of the leading feline charity International Cat Care.
It aims to promote well-being and very high standards of care for all cats visiting or being hospitalised in a veterinary practice or clinic.
Under the programme, a veterinary practice has to prove its adherence to a set of strict criteria, focused on the provision of facilities and demonstration of team activities and attitudes aimed at reducing stress in cats.
The criteria includes having separate dog and cat waiting areas, providing feline-friendly hospitalisation cages, and using veterinary equipment specifically for treating cats.
Ciara and the nurse team took the lead baton in ensuring we achieved accreditation by making sure everything was in place to demonstrate how we met or exceeded the criteria. This was then submitted to the accreditors.
The most important part of the criteria states that the practice team must be highly trained in approaching and handling cats sensitively and respectfully. It also says that the practice should maintain these high standards of veterinary care, meaning that the team must continue to up-date their knowledge of feline medicine and new treatments as more information becomes available. All of which helps them be great cat vets and veterinary nurses.
We provide a calming environment for you and your cat, which in turn makes them easier to handle and treat by our vets and nurses.
